The problem

An African graduate looking for work does not have a discovery problem. They have an orientation problem. There are listings everywhere. What is missing is any honest signal about which direction is worth walking in, what skills that direction needs, and what the next step actually is.

The brief was a career platform. The temptation was to build a job board.

What I did

Ran discovery properly. User interviews plus a competitor teardown across more than a dozen platforms. The teardown is what killed the job-board version: that space is crowded, commoditised, and solves the wrong problem.

Positioned it as a co-pilot. Job discovery, skill mapping and career planning in one flow, so the product answers what next rather than what is open.

Treated AI as a layer, not a headline. AI sits under the matching and planning. It is not the pitch, because a user in this market does not need a chatbot; they need a correct next step.

Shipped alongside real cohorts. We ran career bootcamps through Eventbrite, Zoom and Google Forms, which gave us a live user base to test against rather than a landing page and hope.

Owned the delivery. Design in Figma, build managed through Zoho Sprints and Bitrix24, phased launch.

The hard call

Bundling an LMS and bootcamp infrastructure into a product that was supposed to be lean. It widened scope considerably. It also gave us the only thing that mattered early on: cohorts of real users with real stakes, instead of signups.
