The problem
A health news platform with more than 50GB of accumulated archive, a hosting arrangement that had outgrown it, and a database nobody had structured deliberately. The archive was the asset and the liability at the same time.
What I did
Migrated the whole platform to a new host over FTP, with controlled downtime of roughly 48 hours and no loss of archive.
Restructured the database in phpMyAdmin so the site’s key functions could actually reach the content.
Redesigned and rebuilt the front end — designed in Figma, implemented in WordPress and Elementor, fully responsive.
The hard call
Taking a planned 48-hour outage rather than attempting a live cutover. For a news platform that is painful. It was still the right trade against the risk of a partial migration on 50GB of archive.
What happened
- Migration completed with the archive intact
- New responsive site launched
- Content operations materially easier to run
